SignalCraft Strategies is a fractional business development and marketing practice run by Colin Bunyard from Benicia, California. It gives growing technical and industrial businesses senior growth leadership without the cost of a full-time hire.
Most of the businesses I work with are good at the work itself and under-built on the systems that bring the work in. There is no pipeline, no follow-up process, no clear picture of what is producing revenue — and growth depends entirely on how much time the owner has that month.
I build the missing part. That means business development strategy, marketing leadership, revenue operations, and the sales and marketing alignment that connects them. Not advice handed over in a deck — systems that run after I have set them up.
Contractors, engineering and industrial firms, and businesses across energy, water, power, and renewables. Also small businesses and mission-driven organizations working in education, conservation, resource management, and public affairs.
The through-line is not the industry. It is a business that delivers excellent work but is not being found, trusted, or chosen as often as it should be.
Every engagement moves through the same four stages, in order. Skipping one is usually why previous marketing efforts did not produce anything.
Hiring a business development or marketing manager means salary, payroll burden, ramp time, and the risk that the role turns out to be wrong for your stage. For a lot of businesses that is six months and a six-figure commitment before anyone knows whether it was the right call.
A fractional partnership gives you senior leadership on a monthly retainer, builds systems your team keeps, and can be scaled or ended without unwinding a hire. Sometimes hiring is genuinely the right answer — when there is already a working system that needs more capacity. I will tell you when that is the case.
SignalCraft is deliberately small. I take a limited number of engagements so the people who hire me get the person they hired, not an account manager. Current client work includes a mechanical and HVAC consultancy in the Bay Area.
I am based in Benicia, California, work throughout the San Francisco Bay Area in person, and take remote engagements nationwide.
If you want a straight read on where your growth is actually leaking, the scorecard is the fastest way to get one — twenty questions, about five minutes, and a score you keep. A first conversation works too, with an honest answer about whether I am the right fit.
